About Our Puppies
All our puppies are born, raised and boarded in our family home, with children and lots of comings and goings. They are are socialised and handled as soon as mum is ready and happy. We can brag high praise for their temperaments and attitudes to life. We have some wonderful reviews!
We believe strongly in exposing puppies to real life from the start. Hoovers, TV, mops and buckets, hustle and bustle… they are born in their big whelping box in our front room where we can keep an eye on them easily and they are part of our daily lives then until the day they fly the nest.
Pens and roaming spaces are increased for our babies incrementally as they grow. We feel that they should develop early strength and adventure skills, safely. Litters will be roaming our garden, supervised, from an early age!
Puppies are rarely left for long except overnight, we are lucky to have a lot of in-house help! I also have a camera set up which I can view from my phone wherever I am. In their early days I sleep downstairs with my girls and their newborns.
We have always kept our puppies to 10 weeks old, sometimes we grow some on longer, under specific circumstances they might leave at 8 or 9 week’s and this can be discussed with us. All puppies leave us with a microchip. Sadly, we are now electing not to vaccinate and to leave the decisions on vaccinations to new owners. We are always happy to discuss everything with new owners and special arrangements can be made to suit most situations.
Puppies are wormed regularly with us, and the mothers and other dogs are all on comprehensive worming programmes as well as having routine flea and tick treatment. Puppies have their nails regularly clipped from very early on and are vet heath checked. They are sold with a comprehensive puppy pack full of information and goodies. Leaving us they will be nearly ready to get out into the world with you and definitely ready for their new life and to start more learning.
Any puppies with us longer than 10 weeks begin their foundation training with us and our friends and KC approved trainer @ A and S Dog Training. We also start lead training, socialisation, show handling, recall and obedience right from 10 weeks as we want any puppy, even if they aren’t here forever, to have the very best start.
Breeding & Availability
We are focused on improving our dog’s health, type and quality through our breeding. I want my dogs to be functional, which does not necessarily mean fashionable.
We seek to have good bone, excellent feet, strong coats, minimal exaggeration in conformation and to be close to breed standard. HEALTH, movement, athletic ability, drive, character, temperament, charm and intelligence should all be part of the picture. We try our best but there is no guaranteed formula!
We breed with the intention of continuing our lines and I will normally be keeping one, if not two, puppies back from a litter to grow on. Sometimes these puppies go on to have careers with us in showing and are mothers and fathers to future generations. Others will go off to new homes as older puppies for one reason or another.
Having failed to persuade my girls to ever deliver just the one perfect baby… we will almost always have some of our wonderful puppies available, to selected homes, from each litter we have.
I thoroughly enjoy talking to anyone who will listen, about my dogs and puppies and will be happy to discuss anything with you, both over the phone and in person. Text and email enquiries are also most welcome. If you are expressing interest in owning one of my dogs….please do not be offended if I interrogate you!
Meet and greets are welcome in our home, at shows or out and about. Visits to the house are preferred to be by arrangement, but if you drop in willy nilly things are much the same… but may be a little less tidy!
We regularly welcome friends and visitors to meet our dogs at home, just for hugs, ahead of babies being due and when babies are on the ground. I mean who doesn’t want hairy sausage snuggles?
Breeding Restrictions
When considering a puppy or older dog from us it is worth note that ALL our WHDs come with a contractual breeding restriction. That is not to say we wouldn’t be happy to lift it under the right circumstances.
We are particular about how breeding lines will be taken forward as this will reflect on our dogs and kennel name, and on the breed as a whole.
As responsible breeders we want to ensure our part in improving this breed wherever we can. WHDs make amazing mothers and are generally very capable and fertile breeders who have few complications in pregnancy, whelping and motherhood. We will be happy to discuss breeding with you if it is something you dream of for the future.
